ZOMBIE DIARY

ZOMBIE DIARY
zombie, survival, guns, android, games, upgrade

Fun sidescrolling game where you get to shoot zombies. The game is somewhat nostalgic since I haven't found side shooters lately, sort of like the classic Contra back in the good old days.

The game benefits from a lot of weapon options from handguns, automatic rifles to bazookas, and of course the venerable uzi (what would zombie game be without the uzi???) You can buy most of the weapons using an in-game currency which you can earn through playing. However some of the premium weapons needs to be bought with real cash.

The upgrade system was what kept me hacking zombies and farming for cash. Since the game gets very difficult, quickly, one is forced to keep on upgrading their equipment. It might seem to be an impossible task, as I could hardly win any levels with the stock gun in just around 2 to 3 missions. What saved me was the gold they're giving away for downloading apps from sponsors. It was relatively easy, just download a few apps, run them once and you could just uninstall those app once you get the gold. I downloaded just a few apps and boom! I already got an AK47 assault rifle.

It doesn't stop there. The upgrade system not only allows you to equip new weapons, you also get to pilot mechs, which are available through the in-game currency (gold) except one which requires you to shell out real money just to obtain. It can seem to be costly, considering that the mechs aren't permanent and disappears once the timer runs out.. but the satisfaction of plowing through hordes of zombies in a mech, with machine guns as arms might just be worth it.
Furthermore one could also unlock additional characters with different stats. You start with a boy with average stats, and then get a warrior girl with enhanced speed or one of the other classes (i.e. soldier, force knights, etc).

Last character looks like a robocop/jedi knight combo

However the it becomes repetitively boring after a while. One could say that this game is very linear and the level design looks quite recycled after a while. True, you get to fight new zombies, but the changes are superficial. You still walk around trying to mow down waves, and waves of zombies, zombies get tougher you get better guns/mechs/character so it more or less cancels any development on your part and the zombies as well (zombies get more hp, you get guns with more damage so more or less it is still the same scenario).

I think this game would benefit a lot if they could make your character jump to evade attacks or get to certain areas in the game. This would indeed help alleviate the repetitiveness of the different levels (levels looking the same) as well as challenge players to develop new tactics and play styles.

Overall I think it is a fun game, just don't expect the fun to last forever.
